[London : George Virtue, 1836]. A most attractive antique map of the county, decorated with a “gothick” architectural border, vignette views of Salisbury and Stonehenge, coats of arms, etc. Originally engraved in 1836 by William Schmollinger (1811?-1869) for Moule’s part-work series “The English Counties Delineated” (London : 1830-1837) – and here in very early state, before the addition of railways, etc.
Steel line engraving on paper. Original hand colour. Engraved surface 264 x 210mm (approx. 10-3/8” x 8-1/8”). Trimmed a little tight (as usual); a few minor spots and specks, but overall in very good and clean state. Rare in this early state and with original colour. A guaranteed genuine antique map.
