COLE, Benjamin, 1697?-1783 : THE SOUTH EAST PROSPECT OF ST. PETER’S LE POOR IN BROAD STREET.

[London : for T. Osborne & J. Shipton; and J. Hodges, 1756]. An attractive antique print – an elevation of the original church of St. Peter-le-Poer on Old Broad Street, repaired and enlarged between 1615 and 1630 and a survivor of the Great Fire. Originally engraved by Benjamin Cole for the part-work edition of William Maitland’s “History of London” (London : 1753-1756).
Copper line engraving on paper. Engraved surface 184 x 232mm (approx. 7-1/4” x 9-1/8”). Cropped to neatline at head; faint creasing, but otherwise in very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print. Adams 38/070B.

London : C. Tilt, 1839. An attractive antique print – Old Broad Street and the eighteenth-century City of London church of St. Peter-le-Poer (demolished in 1907). Engraved by John le Keux (1783-1846) from an original study by the architectural painter and draughtsman Frederick Mackenzie. Originally produced for George Godwin’s serially published “The Churches of London” (London : 1837-1839).
Steel line engraving on paper. Later hand colour. Engraved surface 163 x 100mm (approx. 6-3/8” x 4”). In very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print. Adams 189/083.

London : J. Booth, 1811. A handsome antique print – Old Broad Street and the old church of St. Peter-le-Poer. Engraved by Samuel Lacey (1786-1859) from an original study by Robert Blemmel Schnebbelie. Originally produced for the part-work series “Architectura Ecclesiastica Londini; being a Series of Views” (London : 1810-1823) – “the first artistically competent and exhaustive illustration of the golden age of London church building” (Adams). Below the image are several lines of explanatory text.

Engraved by Thomas Barber (fl.1818-1846) from an original study (now in the Guildhall Library) by Thomas Hosmer Shepherd, the master recorder of nineteenth-century London. Originally produced for Shepherd’s series “London and its Environs in the Nineteenth Century” (London : 1829-1832).
