COLE, Benjamin, 1697?-1783 : THE WEST PROSPECT OF THE PARISH CHURCH OF ST. OLAVE IN THE OLD JEWRY.

[London : for T. Osborne & J. Shipton; and J. Hodges, 1756]. An attractive stylised eighteenth-century engraving of the Wren church between Old Jewry and Ironmonger Lane, the tower of which still survives. Originally engraved by Benjamin Cole for the part-work edition of William Maitland’s “History of London” (1753-1756).
Copper line engraving on paper. Engraved surface 243 x 190mm (approx. 9-1/2” x 7-1/2”). A few faint marks, but overall in very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print. Adams 38/061.

London : Jones & Co., 1830. A charming antique print – a view of the Wren church between Old Jewry and Ironmonger Lane, the tower of which still survives. Engraved by William Watkins (1807-1891) from an original study by Thomas Hosmer Shepherd. From Shepherd’s series “London and its Environs in the Nineteenth Century” (London : 1829-1832).
Steel line engraving on paper. Later hand colour. Engraved surface 112 x 151mm (approx. 4-3/8” x 5-7/8”). A couple of tiny marks to outer blank margins, but overall in very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print. Adams 161/064.
