[London : John Tallis & Co., 1852]. A pleasant small antique print – a lively street scene near Leicester Square. An engraving from the workshop of A. H. Payne, originally produced for Payne’s “Illustrated London, or a Series of Views in the British Metropolis and its Vicinity” (London : 1846-1847) – and here in a slightly later impression.
Steel line engraving on paper. Engraved surface 70 x 85mm (approx. 2-3/4” x 3-3/8”). In very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print. Adams 207/095A.

SHEPHERD, Thomas Hosmer, 1793-1864 : WYLD’S MONSTER GLOBE. LEICESTER SQUARE.

London : Read & Co., [1855]. A handsome antique print – Leicester Square and the extraordinary sixty-feet high rotunda erected by the mapseller James Wyld (1812-1887) at the time of the Great Exhibition of 1851. The gas-lit inner surface of the building formed an enormous globe showing the physical features of the earth. Engraved by Edward Chavanne (1812-1881) from an original drawing (now in the British Museum) by Thomas Hosmer Shepherd. Originally produced for the part-work series generally known as “The World’s Metropolis, or Mighty London, Illustrated by a Series of Views Beautifully Engraved on Steel” (London : 1851-1855).
Steel line engraving on paper. Engraved surface 171 x 226mm (approx. 6-3/4” x 8-7/8”). In very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique print. Adams 213/089.

[London : 1852]. An attractive antique print – Leicester Square and the sixty-feet high rotunda erected by the mapseller James Wyld (1812-1887) at the time of the Great Exhibition of 1851. Originally produced for the John Tallis part-work “Tallis’s Illustrated London; in Commemoration of the Great Exhibition of All Nations in 1851. Forming a Complete Guide to The British Metropolis and its Environs” (London : 1851-1852).
Steel line engraving on paper. Engraved surface 100 x 135mm (approx. 4” x 5-3/8”). Trimmed tight at foot, a few slight marks to margins, but otherwise in very good state. A guaranteed genuine antique print. Adams 215/150.
