[Paris : Denys Thierry, 1683]. A striking antique map offering a pleasant image of the seventeenth-century Isle of Man, with Anglesey and the Welsh coast to the south – from the French mathematician, engineer and surveyor Allain Manesson-Mallet. Originally produced for Mallet’s “Description de l’univers : contenant les differents systemes du monde” (Paris : 1683).
Copper line engraving on paper. Engraved surface 150 x 105mm (approx. 5-7/8” x 4-1/8”). Text on verso. One tiny spot, but otherwise in very good and clean state. A guaranteed genuine antique map.

London : G. Virtue, 1833. One of the most attractive of all maps of the island, decorated with an extravagant “gothick” architectural border, coats of arms and a vignette panorama of Mona presiding over stormy seas. Engraved in 1833 by James Bingley (1796-1869) for Moule’s part-work series “The English Counties Delineated” (1830-1837) – and here in earliest state, dated 1833 in the plate and before later revision.
Steel line engraving on paper. Original hand colour. Engraved surface 192 x 266mm (approx. 7-5/8” x 10-1/2”). A few tiny specks and spots, but overall in very good and clean state. Rare in this early state and with original colour. A guaranteed genuine antique map.
