SHEPHERD, Thomas Hosmer, 1793-1864 : NORTH WEST VIEW OF THE LONDON HORSE & CARRIAGE REPOSITORY, GRAY’S INN ROAD. London : Jones & Co., 1828. An attractive antique print – the interior of the old London Horse and Carriage Repository – "a noble structure of a quadrangular form ... affording accommodation for about two hundred horses, and galleries for more than double that number of carriages" – which used to stand near the top of Gray’s Inn Road (opposite Britannia Street). Engraved by William Deeble (1791-1861) from an original study by Thomas Hosmer Shepherd, the master recorder of nineteenth-century London.
