"BUTLER, Joan" - [ALEXANDER, Robert William, 1905-1979] : THE OLD FIRM.

London : Stanley Paul & Co., [1947]. First edition. "The happy laughter of Miss Guinevere Whipple, popular novelist, rings through Swype Hall like the cry of some marsh-hen to its mate ...".
Crown 8vo (20cm). [ii],236,[ii]pp. Original purple cloth, blocked and lettered in gilt; a few faint marks; a handful of edge-spots, but a very good copy in the original Fouet dust-jacket - the spine rather tanned and with some minor wear and reinforcement, but complete and with the original 10s. 6d price.

SOLD

"BUTLER, Joan" - [ALEXANDER, Robert William, 1905-1979] : LOVING CUP.

London : Stanley Paul & Co., [1948]. First edition. An ancient heirloom begins to trouble Sir Hugh Bascombe - as does the living reminder of a "mild flirtation" in Johannesburg many years since. "More laughter by the national humorist" as the jacket declares.
Crown 8vo (20cm). 256pp. Original green boards, lettered in gilt; slight spotting of edges, but a very good, bright and sound copy in the original Fouet dust-jacket - probably in secondary state, with the publishers' 5/- over-sticker on the inner flap - but aside from a touch of dustiness and the very lightest of edge-wear, very good indeed.

SOLD

"BUTLER, Joan" - [ALEXANDER, Robert William, 1905-1979] : GILT EDGED.

London : Stanley Paul & Co., (1953). First edition. "Summer is i-comen in, and so is Reggie Wilmot, a stout lad with an eye like a frozen haddock and the makings of a high-class racketeer".
Crown 8vo (20cm). 224pp. Original green boards, lettered in gilt; a very good, bright, clean and sound copy in the original Fouet dust-jacket - just a little sunned at spine, but fresh and unworn. Small bookseller's label of Swan Libraries of Upminster.
