Smith house manual for staff training (not regularly published) – giving an impressive overview of the history of books; the manufacture of paper; a glossary of paper terms and sizes; letterpress printing; the history of book illustration; methods of printing illustrations; ex libris or bookplates; bookbinding (a section on which the author was advised by Douglas Cockerell); leather and book cloths; stationery; account books, etc. The author was in charge of the company’s building and shop-fitting department. The handbook would appear no longer to be used by the company.
Foolscap 4to (23cm). (xviii),(416)pp. Illustrations. Original buckram; a little bruised; front endpaper slightly cracked, but a nice copy of a most attractive and useful production. Dated 1933 gift inscription to A. L. Wilson.
